Needless to say that come that dreaded day when Jenna-Louise Coleman films her goodbye scene with the departing Matt Smith it’ll be an emotional experience (that is, if she hasn’t already…).
Speaking to the BBC after meeting the Queen at the official opening of the BBC’s Broadcasting House Jenna admitted that she doesn’t even want to read the script to the Christmas special, which is due to begin filming in Autumn:
“I don’t even want to pick up that script just yet!”
Ever since the news broke everybody has been quizzing the actress about who’ll replace Matt in the role…well not everyone.
Interestingly for someone who has been reported to be a fan of the show, Liz Windsor apparently wasn’t quizzing Jenna about who’ll take on the mantle of the Doctor:
“Everybody else in the building has asked me who the next Doctor is, and I can tell you honestly we don’t know. It’s going to be a long, long search. But yes, I’m being asked that question a lot.”
In terms of her own preferences though Jenna is leaving it all in the capable hands of the Doctor Who team:
“I am completely open, and I have lots of confidence in [head writer] Steven [Moffat] and all the team. And I’m sure they’re very much across it. But we shall see.
“I just can’t think about it yet. I think because we’ve [Matt and I] got so much left to [do]. We haven’t even begun our goodbye yet. So, I suppose that’s all I can think about at the moment.”
With filming for the Christmas special not beginning until the autumn, a casting announcement may not need to be made until late summer.
As such, there’s still plenty of time to speculate on who’ll be the next Doctor. We suspect speculation will continue once his identify is announced, too…
