Jenna Talks Matt’s Exit

Calling Matt Smith ‘a true gent,’ Jenna-Louise Coleman shared her thoughts on the departure of the Eleventh Doctor.

In an update to the official BBC Doctor Who website, Jenna said:

“I could not have imagined coming into the show without Matt as my Doctor, holding my hand, really, quite literally. I totally lucked-out in having a creative, generous, clever, and lovely fella to work alongside day after day.

I feel so privileged to have been part of Matt’s reign, to have been companion to what is and what I think always will be one of our greatest Doctors.

He is so in love with the show, he works tirelessly hard, surprises me every day, always creating and discovering something new about the Doctor. A true gent, a leading man and a very special friend.

I know it will be a very difficult goodbye for me, but I for one can’t wait to see where his career takes him next.  And of course with the same welcome I was brought in with, I look forward to welcoming the next Doctor. BUT it’s not over till it’s over. See ya at the big 5-0!”

We couldn’t have put it better ourselves!

Everyone has a favourite Doctor and mine - just for his honesty, his fairness and his ability to not notice the Master's awful, awful disguises/anagrams (Sir Gilles Estram!?!) - has to be the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison. The stories didn’t serve him as well as his acting served those stories.

If he’s so ‘in love’ with the show, then WHY OH WHY is he quitting??

I’m sure Jenna-Louise Coleman is sad to see Matt go but also quite excited to work with a new actor in the role, its always interesting seeing a new actor interact with an assistant who has worked with the previous incumbant.

Indeed, It’s hard to believe that it was way back in 2005 that we last saw a companion witness the Doctor’s Regeneration. Of course, we’re assuming Clara will be present at the all important moment to witness it.

Perhaps because he doesn’t want to stay in it so long that he falls out of love?

We can only guess, although if Clara has met all the other Doctors it would be nice for her to met the new one during thr regeneration.
