New Doctor Who DVDs for North America

It’s a stateside Doctor Who DVD bonanza!

Come the 28th May, fans will be able to get their hands on both Doctor Who Series 7: Part 2 and Doctor Who: The Snowmen and then later in the year, we’re going back in time with Doctor Who: The Doctors Revisited – a look back at the first four Doctors through some of their most iconic episodes.

Series 7B DVD

The Series 7: Part 2 box set comes with all eight episodes from this current run, with the extras yet to be confirmed.

However, BBC America has recently updated their listing for the set, removing the Christmas special The Snowmen from its listing and all the extras excluding the prequel episode to The Bells of Saint John.

While the Amazon listing here still states that the Christmas Special is included in the set, it might be worth holding fire on that pre-order until the full listing for the box set have been official confirmed.

Madame Vastra and the Doctor in The Snowmen

However, if you just want the Doctor’s Christmas run-in with the Great Intelligence then The Snowman is also available to pre-order now for $12.99 with unconfirmed extras set to include the two prequel episodes, The Great Detective and Vastra Investigates, as well as Clara’s White Christmas, a short making of all about the Doctor’s festive adventures.

Then in July, it’s time to take a look back at some of the first four Doctors greatest adventures in the Doctor Who: The Doctor’s Revisited.

The set features the first four special documentaries broadcast by BBC America for William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, with each accompanied by the story that illustrated them at their best; The Aztecs, Tomb of the Cybermen, Spearhead from Space and Pyramids of Mars.

Everyone has a favourite Doctor and mine - just for his honesty, his fairness and his ability to not notice the Master's awful, awful disguises/anagrams (Sir Gilles Estram!?!) - has to be the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison. The stories didn’t serve him as well as his acting served those stories.

Even though I have every classic story they will likely play for The Doctors Revisited already on DVD, I’m willing to get these DVD sets because the documentaries are quite good. Plus it doesn’t hurt to have backup copies of certain classics.
