Highlights from The Fifth Doctor Panel

Another month has come and that means another fantastic screening of a Doctor Who adventure for part of the BFI’s Doctor Who at 50 season.

Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor

This month, fans lucky enough to get tickets were shown a large screen viewing of the Fifth Doctor belter, The Caves of Androzani. It’s a Doctor Who first and last in many ways, the last fifth Doctor story (in chronological order), the first appearance of the Sixth Doctor, the first Doctor Who serial to be directed by Graeme Harper and also the last appearance of Tegan, Turlough, Nyssa and Adric.

Tickets for these screenings have been incredibly hard to get hold of but fret not, because the BFI are releasing the footage from the events and you can now see the panel made up of Peter Davison, Janet Fielding, Sarah Sutton, Matthew Waterhouse and Graeme Harper on the day, reminiscing about the story itself and about their time on Doctor Who.

Highlights from the 20 minute video include Graeme Harper’s recollections about creating the story and Peter Davison’s clear admiration for the directional style that it took as well as the other actors that helped to make it one of the most popular Doctor Who stories ever told.

You can view the full video below; after, you may just want to watch your DVD of The Caves of Androzani…!

The next celebratory screening for Doctor Who at 50 will be The Two Doctors, representing the Sixth Doctor’s era and will take place on Saturday 15th June at 2pm.

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!
