Behind the Scenes: The Name of the Doctor

These clips of behind-the-scenes action from Series 7 will never be Doctor Who Confidential – but let’s face it, they’re the next best thing and deserve all the support we can give.

So here’s a look at some of the stunt work from The Name of the Doctor, featuring the hugely popular Dan Starkey.

The big question now, of course, is will the BBC expand on these clips? Surely so much more is recorded, and with a very special episode coming soon – one that is being recorded in a brand new way (the addition of a second camera for 3D) wouldn’t it be fascinating to see a brand new Doctor Who Confidential for the 50th anniversary episode in November?

Are any of these behind the scenes clips being included on the DVD?

I suspect the BBC could pick up a good audience for a Confidential-style programme on making new Who, if not on each ep then perhaps selected ones over the course of a season including various bits as overviews up to that point.

Better than nothing, but pathetically short. Would have liked to see more of what they cut out of the episode too.

Way back when, on the DVD’s, we’d get the cut down versions of the Confidentials and they were about 15 minutes long each. At the time, I was a bit offended that we got a cut down version but then eventually, I had the opportunity to see an entire one, which was 45 minutes long and I think I preferred the shorter ones. The full length just took each episode apart nut by bolt and I got really bored with the never ending take after cut after shot after re-take etc. So I really don’t mind even these short bits. It’s fun and you see the highlights like Alex slapping Neve too hard and the explosions on the Tardis set.
