OK, I’ll bite…how, exactly, was this letter delivered?

Slowly by the look fo the discolourisation. Post Office, eh?

That’s second class at its best then…

Well it would have helped if there was actually a stamp on it…

Perhaps Vastra has delivered it herself because she’s still alive in modern times. She’s a reptile and some species can live a long time, even without the Silurian capacity for suspended animation. There’s nothing in the clip to say it was written in Victorian times.

Has Moffat watched the Back to the Future trilogy recently? A companion called Clara, the Doctor’s outfit resembling Doc Brown’s in Part 3 and now a letter from the past told to be delivered to a precise point in the future? Just wondering because the comparisons are there.

Re The Doctor’s outfit resembling Doc Brown’s: could be, but it happens all over. Back to the Future Part III itself references Once Upon a Time in the West, both in Doc’ Brown’s duster coat – like the duster coats worn by Henry Fonda and gang – and in the up-and-over camera movement that reveals the young town of Hill Valley behind the railroad halt, a near-exact copy of the single shot in Once Upon a Time In The West that starts with Claudia Cardinale seen through the railroad halt window and then lifts up to show the young town of “Flagstone”. And Once Upon a Time In The West in turn references numerous classic Westerns. And so on.

I’d say though that the resemblance between Doc Brown’s apparel and Henry Fonda’s is much closer than any resemblance between the Doctor’s and Doc Brown’s. But re Clara and the letter-from-the-past, yes, the point is well made.
