Joining acting legend Kenneth Branagh in a summer production of Macbeth this year will be Doctor Who bad girl Alex Kingston.
Newspaper The Daily Mail revealed that the actress will be coming on board as Lady Macbeth the Manchester International festival production of the famous Shakespeare play from July 5th 2013 for two weeks, the play will be performed in a rundown church in Manchester city central.
The tale of prophecy, murder and madness is one of Shakespeare’s finest works and is even given homage in Gareth Robert’s 2007 Doctor Who episode The Shakespeare Code by the use of three villainous witches plotting together.
Not only will you be able to see the play live if you can make it to the Manchester area during the dates (and get tickets, obviously) but there will also be a live broadcast of it on July 20th. Quite how they theatre group will regulate that for viewers is anyone’s guess right now but it will be exciting to find out.
Of course, what all this means in terms of Doctor Who is that Alex Kingston may well be appearing in the 50th anniversary episode of the show as it doesn’t appear to conflict with her performance dates. She’s certainly one of the few actors from Doctor Who that has kept very, very quiet about her involvement in the show’s future so far.
