Update from Writercon!

I’m currently sat in the snug at The Lass O’Gowrie in Manchester where Terrance Dicks is currently chatting about Jon Pertwee, Barry Letts, Bob Holmes and Time Lords. Meanwhile, I’ve just finished chatting to Andrew Smith about his 1980 serial Full Circle!

It’s Writercon day here at Manchester’s (Britain’s?) finest public house and Terrance and Andrew are on a guest list that also includes Keith Temple (Planet of the Ood) and Philip Martin (Vengeance on Varos) in a situation that can equally be called civilized, intimate and slightly anarchic.

There are no autograph queues for £20 signatures here – just drinks, pies and fascinating recollections about everybody’s favourite TV show. The atmosphere is great, and everyone seems to be having a great time. Keith Temple was particularly refreshing as a one-time writer and comparative newcomer.

If you’re in Manchester and haven’t made it, more info can be found at

Its events like this that make me curse not being a Brit, or at least not living in England.

    Just come from the event.

I’d like to offer some advice to the organisers.

Don’t say the event starts at 10 and not open the doors till 10:30 when winds are blowing unseasonably cold without apology or explanation!

Great guests, interesting Q & A, poor organisation!

Organisers here. I’m pleased you enjoyed the day and as ever, they take far more organisation than are often apparent to the naked eye, especially with the Snowmageddon descending on the country 24 hours previously. The start time of 11am with doors at 10:30am was posted in as many places as was possible, notably on Gallifreybase and Facebook however, it’s unfortunate you missed this. I hope this 30 minute delay did not irrevocably taint your enjoyment of the day. G x

      • Cheers Gareth!
