Sylvester Denies Anniversary Special Involvement

In the ongoing saga of ‘will they, won’t they or have they already asked the former Doctors to return to the show for its 50th anniversary’, Sylvester McCoy has denied that the BBC have approached him to once again don the question mark vest and return to the show.

Speaking with IGN whilst promoting the DVD and Blu-Ray release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey an animated McCoy was asked whether he had heard about an approached by Steven Moffat:

No. Nothing. Niet. Zilch. The other day I was with Tom Baker, Peter, and Colin – the 20th century Who-ers, and Tom asked ‘Well, little man, have you heard anything?’ and I told him ‘No, I haven’t heard anything.’ So none of us have heard anything.

Sylvester also talked about the similarities between the Seventh Doctor and Radagast the Brown, his favourite Doctor moments (Remembrance of the Daleks being one of those moments where he: ‘felt like the Doctor’), how he keeps sane amongst all the fan love and his opinions on the modern series.

About the Author

Everyone has a favourite Doctor and mine - just for his honesty, his fairness and his ability to not notice the Master's awful, awful disguises/anagrams (Sir Gilles Estram!?!) - has to be the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison. The stories didn’t serve him as well as his acting served those stories.

I reckon Eccleston, & Tennant will return. Filming stars Monday so we shall see. If the old Doctors are not returning I hope they at least CGI them in.

I’m just saying it strikes me as odd that Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy happened to be hanging out together.

Indeed…..methinks he droppeth a rather large hint.

Don’t forget the Big Finish audio production which I believe has all 11 Doctors. That would be why they are hanging out together…

The Big Finish 50th Anniversary features only Doctors four to eight plus, judging from the trailer that has been released, cameos of some sort from one to three.

Their current license from the BBC does not allow them to feature any of the “new series” Doctors or characters.

Big Finish said with the past Doctors being in their 50th Anniversary special it had no reflection on the TV series, so if they could still appear. Haven’t Big Finish record the special yet?
And good points saying why were they all together. Sylvester could of said ‘we met up doing the Big Finish recording….’.
Also Peter Davsion said if they were not to be in it, he would get make a special himself with the others, but didn’t include Tom.

It would be a serious error in judgement for the past Dr’s not to be in the anniversary special. Moffat is way too canny to make such a mistake. Also…Sylv was MY Dr so for the anniversary to live up to my expectations he def. needs to be involved.

On a side note – the mental image given by talk of Sylvester in a question-mark vest always morphs into a mental image of Onslow in Keeping Up Appearences. To avoid this in the future please understand that Sylv wore a question mark Tank-top.
