Infamous phone-hacking red-top The Sun reckons that star of Doctor Who Matt Smith is set to leave at Christmas.

Just days after telling Jonathan Ross that he takes the show a year at a time, Matt is apparently heading to America to forge a career in Hollywood (beginning with How to Catch a Monster), with The Sun claiming
Matt’s contract is understood to expire in November but we understand he doesn’t want it renewed.
This isn’t the first time that Matt Smith (or indeed any Doctor) has been touted as leaving, but the BBC have been quick on this occasion to put a lid on things.
Sorry folks but even we don’t know what’s going to happen at Christmas. It’s not been written yet! But Matt loves the show and is to start filming the unmissable 50th anniversary, and the new series starting on Easter Saturday.
So, move along, folks, there’s nothing to see here (until Christmas, at least)…
(It’s worth pointing out that The Sun went on to speculate on who might replace Matt, with a list that included Helen Mirren, thereby damaging any credibility they might have wanted to demonstrate with their “insider” knowledge.)

The media needs to stop riding this when-will-he-leave horse and just let them get on with it. He’ll go when he’s ready to go, but he’s said over and over again he’s not quite done yet, he still loves playing the part.
Sigh. I suppose if the tabloids predict Matt’s departure often enough, they will end up being right someday.
I think the only way to scotch such rumors and media speculation is for Matt Smith to say something definitive not the cagey remarks he made on Jonathan Ross’ show recently. That way we have an idea what’s going on. Just my opinion.
it’s probably just more hype for the new episodes. no press is bad press.
Good, get out.
