In news that will warm the hearts of many classic Doctor Who fans, BBC Worldwide’s DoctorWho.tv website has announced that contrary to previous reports, the forthcoming DVD release of The Ice Warriors will include animated reconstructions of the missing episodes!
As you can see from above, the animation is of a different style to that produced for The Reign of Terror. Said DVD producer Dan Hall, Managing Director of Pup Ltd Media Consultancy:
Producing the animated episodes is animation studio Qurios, who will be bringing to life missing episodes two and three. Says Hall:
Producer of the classic Who range, Chris Chapman, has been involved to oversee the animation, although Qurios are no newcomers – they’ve previously done effects work for comedy series Hyperdrive and Mongrels.
This is of course great news, coming at the right time – Series 7b will feature the return of the Ice Warriors with an updated look!

not a super impressive clip, but it is so awesome that they are animating these lost episodes! Power of the Daleks, please!
See, I like that style animation MUCH much better than what we got in Reign of Terror. The animation in R. of T. was very detailed but almost painfully so. It actually gave me a headache by the time it was over. They tried so hard to get realistic it backfired on them.
The above clip is far more like the animation from The Invasion and suits it perfectly, I think. Check out all the nuances of Troughton’s expressions, it’s all there, communicated very nicely. Simple, to the point, yet smoother than Scream of the Shalka and not as over-worked as Reign of Terror. I’m very excited that they’re animating this as well as the end of Tenth Planet.
My dearest BBC,
I’m so very sorry for the terrible things I said about you when it was incorrectly reported that you would not be animating “The Ice Warriors” missing episodes. I was upset, and in the heat of passion we all sometimes say things we come to regret. I hope you will accept this box of chocolates (the chewy kind with bits of almond–I know what you like, BBC!). Please know there’s nothing you could ever do to make me stop loving you. Except if you cancelled Doctor Who again. Consider yourself warned.
With much love,
Bradondo
