Remember last year when Steven Moffat quit Twitter? At the time it was largely blamed on a particularly rude comment (or string of comments), but it seems more than likely that the Doctor Who executive producer and lead writer found himself reaching a “tipping point” with the social network.
This week, the man we call The Grand Moff turned up on YouTube to chat to a young chap called Armytedd about a number of things – including Twitter, and his reasons for quitting the day-to-day exposure to fans (and haters).
It’s just… well, I need as few distractions as possible. Writing is hard and sometimes rather dull so I just need to isolate myself from all that.
Incidentally, “Armytedd” is the son of Steven Moffat, and he makes a rather good interviewer. Let’s hope he can move on from grilling his dad, though, and progress to Time Lords!
You can catch this video and many others on our YouTube channel, available via our new Kasterborous TV page!
Meanwhile, if you wish to leave questions for The Grand Moff, head to YouTube via the button on the video above and cross your fingers that the big man of Doctor Who gets to answer them!

Why would this egotistical maniac want to go back to Twitter?
Less Twitter more/better output?
Maybe he’ll have more time to fight for more episodes for the 51st year!
BTW tried finding the video on the YouTube channel but the most recent was about a year old. I’ve subscribed anyway
I think Steven Moffat is wise to abandon Twitter and distance himself from fandom. Whilst most of us are loyal and supportive, there are plenty of extreme examples whom are totally unhinged and don’t understand the complexities of script writing, and see themselves as the police of fandom. There are some out there who somehow think Doctor Who belongs to them and it’s for them to dictate what happens to the show.
