Is The Snowmen The Best Christmas Episode Yet?

Welcome to our now-traditional “was the latest Christmas episode better than all of the others?” poll, in which we tempt you into clicking some radio buttons to impart an opinion which everyone will forget about for a week and then be surprised by the results.

(Much like a political election. But unlike politics, THIS ACTUALLY MATTERS. Right?)

We loved The Snowmen, in that “no talking, mouth agape for 60 minutes” way in which Classic Doctor Who was once loved on first viewing. As such, we thought it only right to check – is it just the occupants of Kasterborous Towers, or was The Snowmen the best Christmas Doctor Who adventure yet?

You’ll recognise the other candidates…

So, vote above for your favourite, and leave some pertinent, insightful but spoiler-free comments below.

Love the new title sequence. They brought back the face! Brilliant.

There were good things in it, but it wasn’t in the same league as A Christmas Carol, which was by far the tightest storytelling we’ve had in a Christmas special. And I think The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe was a little more satisfying than The Snowmen, which drifts all over the place.

But Strax is the first laugh-out-loud character in Who history, and it looked beautiful. Looking forward to seeing how the Clara story unfolds.

Very good episode. The Doctor, Clara and Strax were excellent and the new opening sequence was fantastic, much much better than the previous one. The only thing I didn’t like was the new Tardis console room. I t might be the worst one the show’s ever had—and I’m including the entire 50 years. Boring, uninspired and bland. How could they go from the very best to the very worst? Hopefully it was his depressing, loner console room and now that he’s back in the swing of things, he change the desktop theme again.

Interesting to see TDTW&TW’s low standing.

While I loved almost all of the story, I am with CastellanSpandrel in disliking the drippy resolution (see what he did there?). However, infinitely better than The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe, which I pretty well hated from start to finish (definitely don’t like the Doctor as Santa either). Also I don’t really like being made sad on Christmas Day :(

Loved the identity of the enemy (Patrick Troughton is MY doctor) (careful avoidance of spoilers, I hope).

Did anyone else notice that the children had obviously been time-travelling already, or how did they have teddy bears ten years before they were invented?
