You can’t have missed it, even if you were out that night, you probably jumped onto YouTube as soon as you got home to watch the official prequel to this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special The Snowmen – and you wouldn’t have been alone.
But for those of you that stayed in a Friday or so ago and caught all of the shenanigans of this year’s Children in Need as well as Doctor Who’s prequel episode The Great Detective, you made up a massive audience figure of at least six point nine million people and that’s only based on unofficial overnight viewing figures!
The trailer for Doctor Who’s Christmas day special was shown on BBC One an hour later and got a massive eight point six million viewers, who all saw Richard E Grant being dastardly and the Doctor looking more than a little lost as to what to do with his life next. The short trailer managed to beat Coronation Street in viewing figures; do you reckon that made Producer Phil Collinson happy or sad?
Whilst some of the share probably came from viewers that were watching the whole of the night’s events, it’s still fantastic to see even a little bit of Doctor Who doing so well in the ratings war!
