Here’s a turn-up – the BBC has released details of its Christmas Day schedule, confirming the presence of Doctor Who in a lineup that also includes EastEnders, Call the Midwife and The Royle Family.
Traditionally, confirmation of just which shows will be aired on the national holiday are held back to late November, and even then scheduling details are not released until early December. This new tactic from the BBC suggests that they’re throwing down a gauntlet to ITV early for 2012, raising questions as to how the independent broadcaster might respond.
But what time will these shows go out? There are no details for this yet, but we can be pretty certain it will be in the evening. Oh, and it will be on iPlayer soon after, just in case you miss it…
While we know very little about the coming Christmas special (beyond a rough idea of the setting and various cast members) we Doctor Who fans can at last sit back and plan the special day in plenty of advance.
Which is pretty cool, don’t you think?

Given how well the show has done in the ratings in the Christmas Day slot I don’t think there was much chance of it not being shown on Christmas Day!
I hope it’s better than last year’s, that was dire.
Last years was great, funny and interesting. Can’t wait for this years. In Moffat we trust!
“I hope it’s better than last year’s, that was dire.” – This.
The Doctor shouldn’t be Santa but S Moffat seems to think he should be.
