The BBC has confirmed that Doctor Who will play a part in this year’s Children in Need fundraiser, in the shape of a prequel episode.

Featuring Matt Smith, the segment will be a “bespoke storyline” made especially for the appeal, topped off with an exclusive preview of the Christmas episode – the title for which remains unknown at present.
As previously reported, the 2012 Christmas special guest stars Richard E. Grant and Tom Ward, and footage revealed so far indicates that it is set in the 19th/early 20th century.
Highlighting that this will be the first time that the Doctor and his new companion (Jenna-Louise Coleman) will be seen together, the trailer – which will air with the prequel on Friday, November 16th.

It isn’t a prequel. It would only be a prequel if released after the main episode, and designed to be watched by people who’d already seen that episode.
What annoys me the most about these annual Children in Need/Doctor Who shorts are, quite frankly, they’re uninteresting and mostly have very little bearing on what’s going to happen. At least the pre/mid-season material is actually related to the episodes.
Erm. Diana Rigg and Rachael Stirling aren’t in the Christmas Special. They’re in the Crimson Horror.
Blimey what a faux pas! Thanks for spotting!
