Matt’s Fiftieth Anniversary Wishes

All Matt Smith wants for Christmas is a script for the Fiftieth Anniversary special – that’s when the Eleventh Doctor will find out just what ‘brilliant ideas’ Moffat has been teasing him (and us) all year long.

Matt Smith as Doctor WhoSo excited was Matt to hear just what Moffat has concocted, he arrived an hour late and full of ideas to tease the New Zealand based paper Waikato Times with:

I hope that we mark it in the best way possible and we honour the people that have been in the show before us and we make it as grand and brilliant and inventive and as much an occasion as possible. What that is, I may have an idea, but I can’t tell you I’m afraid.

Naturally the conversation turned towards the big question: Will we see a multi-Doctor story to mark the occasion like other anniversaries before it?

Who knows? I think it’s an exciting idea. Whether it would be possible, or whether it could ever happen I just don’t know, but whatever we can do to mark that 50th anniversary will be spectacular, that much I do know.

To read more of Matt’s interview; where he lobbies for a New Zealand based story and toys with the idea of inviting a certain Oscar winning Director to shoot that episode, head over to Stuff.NZ, where the interview is reprinted.

About the Author

Everyone has a favourite Doctor and mine - just for his honesty, his fairness and his ability to not notice the Master's awful, awful disguises/anagrams (Sir Gilles Estram!?!) - has to be the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison. The stories didn’t serve him as well as his acting served those stories.

I noticed Google a few weeks ago did a 45th anniversary special top thing for Star Trek. I hope they recognize DW when the time comes.

50th idea: A one off Mcgann story, set before the time war.

I think Dr. Who multi stories are a thing of the past now. I would like to see documentaries made on all of the actors who have played the Doctor, on all of the Doctor,s enemies, and a documentary detailing the Doctors origins right up to present day. I think they would provide a fascinating insight into the Doctors history.
