Steven Moffat’s Episode Guide: Asylum of the Daleks

Doctor Who is back!

And whetting your appetites Steven Moffat has shared his episode by episode guide to what we’ll be gasping, laughing and loving in the first half of season seven with the Radio Times.

Dare you enter the Asylum of the Daleks!

“’Does it surprise you to know that the Daleks have a concept of beauty?’

The Daleks are mad. That’s what makes them unique among the Doctor’s enemies. The others can be sinister or manipulative or plain evil – a Dalek is a robot with anger problems, a tank that hates you, a killing machine driven by a ranting slug. What could be worse than that? Well, since you ask…

There is a legend the Doctor has always dismissed as fantasy – there are stories from the darkest corners round the camp fire of a place called the Dalek Asylum: a planetoid that’s been cracked open and filled with the battle-scarred, psychotic Daleks even the Daleks have come to fear.

A summons from the mysterious Darla Von Karlsen, and a plea to rescue her daughter, leads the Doctor, Amy and Rory into the deadliest adventure yet. Because the Dalek Asylum suddenly is much more than a myth or a story – it’s their destination…”

Fulfilling a lifetime’s ambition Steven Moffat has finally written a Dalek episode and to see the spectacular results watch Asylum of the Daleks this Saturday 7.20pm on BBC One and BBC One HD – and of course at 9/8c on BBC America!

Meanwhile you can check out our coverage of the episode using the Asylum of the Daleks tag page!

About the Author

Everyone has a favourite Doctor and mine - just for his honesty, his fairness and his ability to not notice the Master's awful, awful disguises/anagrams (Sir Gilles Estram!?!) - has to be the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison. The stories didn’t serve him as well as his acting served those stories.

I see the Episode Guide is for 5 episodes.

Sorry to be slow with this, but does this mean that we get 5 episodes – presumably all aired in September as there are 5 Saturdays in that month – and then none until the Xmas special?

    Can someone clarify, please?

    • That seems to be the case at the moment – we’ve our own episode guide coming a little later on…

Thanks, Christian Cawley (who’s very tall)

How frustrating! Who works best in the autumn months. Oh well.

I think we can expect more jiggery-pokery with the show’s scheduling over coming seasons to keep us interested.
