Matt Smith has hinted that a classic monster could soon return!
Speaking to TV Choice Matt said that an enemy from the show’s original 1963-1989 run might make an appearance in a future episode:
When further pressed Matt clarified that:
Now the biggest and perhaps most favourite returnee beast (the last of the big four left to put in an appearance) would be the Ice Warriors who haven’t hissed menacingly on our screens since 1974’s The Monster of the Peladon.
Although in the monster sweepstakes a strong outsider bet would be the Zygons who haven’t been a major feature in a Doctor Who serial (there have been odd mentions in The Panadorica Opens, a never materialised cameo in Shada and a fleeting appearance in the interactive mini-episode Attack of the Graske) since Terror of the Zygons.
Though let’s not rule out the Yeti, the Raston Warrior Robot, the Nimon (well we’ve already had a descendent of his in The God Complex) and, most importantly, Alpha Centauri (for fun times, make it Centauri times)
Of course, one man’s monster is somebody else’s polystyrene walking punchline, so why not tell us in the comments who you would like to see brought back to face the Doctor once again?
I would like to see the Ice Warriors and The Yeti/Great Intelligence to return.

Sure, why not! If Big Finish can use the Vardans well, so can NuWho.
I would love to see the Ice Warriors return, just as long as they don’t radically change the design the way they have done with the new Daleks and the Silurians.

The Mara would be a good choice. They lend themselves to a different kind of story from other revived monsters. It would also be fascinating to see Sil spouting Moffat dialogue.
Definitely the Ice Warriors (though I share the concern about terrible redesigning).
Surely it has to be the Plasmatons or the Bandrils.
Why the Ice Warriors? They didn’t do much previously or appear in any memorable stories.
I would love to see the return of the Chumblies…
I’ve long advocated the Chumblies – I’ve even suggested to this editor and associate editor in question at K to begin a campaign to bring back the Chumblies. Be it in Doctor Who or in their own fabby spin-off show where they entertain for an hour with music, guests, quizzes and hilarious sketches!
Ice Warriors are a favourite for me being one of the few ambiguous villains, along with the Silurians. However the Ice Warriors don’t tend to fall into the story trap Silurians seem to (guilt factored/should rule Earth/have to be defeated/have to feel more guilty). So Ice Warriors.
