We’ve known for a while now that David Bradley (Argus Filch in the Harry Potter films, Unintelligible Farmer in Hot Fuzz) is playing a role in Episode 2 (now known as Dinosaurs On A Spaceship, a title which has divided viewers) of the new season of Doctor Who, but he’s now revealed some details about his character in a Warwick University podcast (scroll down the page to find him, then skip to about 11:30 or so to hear them talk about Doctor Who).
He plays a pirate captain called Solomon (presumably no relation to Hugh Quarshie’s character of the same name in 2007′s Daleks In Manhattan/Evolution Of The Daleks), who apparently owns a ship “the size of Canada” and two rusty robots. This could explain why this episode will have the second-biggest set in the entirety of Doctor Who (it was the biggest until Asylum Of The Daleks needed a bigger one).
Solomon’s appearance is also based, according to Bradley,
“…on a well-known nightclub owner with long hair…and he wears black leather like an old rocker.”
All we know is, that doesn’t sound like Mr. Spearmint Rhino (yes, we know that’s a brand name and not a person).
He also had something to say on the subject of working with Matt Smith:
” It was just great working with Matt, he’s a terrific actor, a lovely guy and we had a lot of fun together.”
This isn’t actually Mr Bradley’s first appearance in the world of Doctor Who – his first appearance was back in 2010′s Sarah Jane Adventures episode Death Of The Doctor (he played one of the Shansheeth in a voiceover role). The part of Solomon sounds like an interesting one and we look forward to seeing it on-screen!

David Bradley is great. The title is Godawful. If they’re trying to be funny in a ‘snakes on a plane’ postmodern type way then they have painfully failed.
