Actress Rachael Stirling

Dame and Daughter in Doctor Who!

Dame Diana Rigg appears in Doctor Who Series 7

Television legend Dame Diana Rigg – one-time star of The Avengers – and her daughter Rachael Stirling, a fantastic actress in her own right – have both been cast in Mark Gatiss’ Doctor Who Series 7 episode!

The news has been announced this lunchtime on the show’s official Twitter feed.

Meanwhile, Rigg’s daughter Rachael Stirling (Tipping the Velvet, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen) is quoted as saying:

The two actress join David Warner and Liam Cunningham in the historical episode which much surely qualify as the most sumptuously-cast installment of the show for some time, if not ever!

Further details have been released on the BBC News page, in which Rigg’s character is described as “a Yorkshire local”, while the Dame enthused

“The first time Rachie and I will be working together is on an episode of Doctor Who specially written for us by Mark Gatiss. How lucky is that?”

Meanwhile Stirling explained why the pair chose this particular occasion to work together.

“We have never before worked together because the offers have not been tempting, but when such a funny and original script comes through you know the time has come.”

It seems like this is going to be an adventure to remember…
