Daleks Defeated by Weeping Angels!

Bad news for the Daleks – they’ve been voted into second place in a new Radio Times poll of over 10,000 Doctor Who fans, replaced in Whovian’s affections by the Weeping Angels…

With more than 10,000 fans voting in the RadioTimes.com poll, nearly half (49.4 per cent) chose the Angels as their favourite monsters. Classic Who adversaries the Daleks were in second place with 17 per cent of the vote, followed by another Moffat creation, The Silence, in third place with almost 12 per cent.

Elsehwhere, the Doctor’s fellow Time Lord, the Master, and Moffat’s microscopic swarm The Vashta Nerada, were in fourth and fifth place, respectively, with the Cybermen, Davros, the Zygons, the Ice Warriors and the Sontarans completing the top ten.

The greatest Doctor Who monsters of all time

  1. The Weeping Angels (49.4%)
  2. The Daleks (17%)
  3. The Silence (11.84%)
  4. The Master (8.66%)
  5. The Vashta Nerada (6.81%)
  6. The Cybermen (2.53%)
  7. Davros (2.2%)
  8. The Zygons (0.69%)
  9. The Ice Warriors (0.54%)
  10. The Sontarans (0.33%)

Tim Glanfield  is the editor at RadioTimes.com:

“The Daleks had generations of children cowering behind the sofa in the past, but our poll shows Steven Moffat’s terrifying Weeping Angels are the stuff of modern nightmares – remember, don’t blink!.”

Here at Kasterborous, we’re confident that a similar poll conducted in Doctor Who Magazine might even things out a bit. It’s all about who is voting, you see…

  1. Just goes to show you when only young fans vote.

Personally I’d like the Yeti or Ice Warriors!

Until The Daleks get a decent story AND one which re-establishes them as a threat (aside from series one it is has been almost one dud after another IMO) then they will be hard pushed to win poll’s of this type, which tend to be, in part, fickle anyway-in 5 or 10 year’s time it may well be another creation that takes top spot. It is a shame that the Dalek stories have not been given the care and attention that the Angel stories have since the show came back (other than as I say series 1). Still in the wider scope of things, they will always be number one where merchandise alone comes into play as just one example.Good to see the Zygon’s yet again getting a showing. Surely by now some show runner must be getting the message to bring them back? After all they are 40 in a few year’s time and to be so beloved after one four episode appearance in all of 40 year’s speak’s volumes.

If you go by the last few years, then this poll is fair enough. Both Weeping Angel stories are superior to any Dalek story since, well, ‘Dalek’.

    • Oh I dunno, I think they’re pretty awesome in Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways…

Actually that one was pretty good; but still, you’re going back to 2005 again there! And it’s not as though there’s been a shortage of Dalek action since then.

I know he’s a nasty piece of work but since when was the Master a monster??

    • The Deadly Assassin?

      • avatar francis cave says:

Not a monster, just a bit crispy!!

Since he did monstrous things- the devastation of the Earth by the Toclafane comes to mind. By that token mankind deserves a place on the list. That’s my “Monster Club” moment over.
