Torchwood Back One Day: A Miracle?

Have we seen the last of Torchwood? ‘Ave we heck!

Whilst most of the cast and crew have admitted that the series is in limbo and that a new format of the show is unlikely to crop up any time soon, that by no means states that the story is over, just resting for a while until it gains new life.

Starz channel CEO has commented that a new series of the show is still a possibility but not something that is around the corner. He remains optimistic though:

“We told them [the BBC], we stand by ready for any news, but I think it would be a while before Russell [T Davies] came back to Torchwood.”

Torchwood returned to screens last year for a ten part story, Miracle Day, which was a co production between the BBC and American channel Starz. Whilst it was well received and scored excellent ratings, the show has since been sidelined and not really talked about.

Current Doctor Who show runner Steven Moffat recently commented that he had no plans for any Doctor Who spin offs and it doesn’t seem like it is something that is at the top of the BBC’s priority list right now but we can hold out hope that we haven’t seen the last of Captain Jack and his Earth defence crew, it just might be a while until we see them again.

Let’s just hope by that time the good Captain hasn’t started transforming into The Face of Boe…

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!

I’d heard that the delay to more Torchwood is because RTD has personal issues which means he has to take a step back from writing. So we will all have to wait and quite right too….

To be honest, it wouldn’t surprise me if it was cancelled – Miracle Day was absolutely horrible and COE Day 5 felt like the perfect, appropriate end to Jack’s time with Torchwood 3. Better to enjoy the three good series we got than watch it continue to go downhill, in my opinion.. because Miracle Day felt nothing like the Torchwood I love, and the whole 4th series felt so unnecessary and poorly executed.

This sums up my feelings perfectly. Well said!

I agree with Lindie – Miracle Day started with a brilliant premise but was just flabby and dull. Neither main character was anything like they had been in the previous three seasons and it failed to maintain interest.

While I would like to see it back, I want it to be less disappointing than Miracle Day.
