Mark Sheppard as Canton Everett Delaware III in Day of the Moon

Canton and On?

There’s a great interview with Doctor Who Series 6 guest star Mark Sheppard in Doctor Who Magazine #445 in which the actor discusses his recent trip down under with the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular and the possibility of a return to the show.

“I hope I’m back, I really do. I’d be honoured.”

Well, that’s the first barrier – he’s certainly keen!

As the conversation continues, however, it seems that Sheppard knows a little more than he lets on.

“My dad [Morgan Sheppard, who played older Canton] may be back before me. It depends whether they do 2011 or 1969, or later.”

Whatever the case, Canton is a fun character, so it would be great to see a return from this staple element of genre television.

If you haven’t got the latest DWM, the interview continues with some interesting impressions of how important Canton was to the Doctor as well as the matter of the character’s uniquely underplayed sexual orientation.
