This is possibly the last time we’ll see the “old” TARDIS team together, in costume, before Amy and Rory leave their travels in time and space behind…
Reunited for the start of filming on Doctor Who Series 7 – the 33rd run in the show’s 49 years – the trio of Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill are building up to a “heartbreaking departure” for the Ponds.
The BBC announced in December that the couple would be leaving the series during its next run and have provided this great snap of the group on-set in front of the iconic police box TARDIS as work commenced on the new batch of episodes in Cardiff.
“It’s thrilling and exciting to be back and working with two of my closest friends.”
Meanwhile departing Karen Gillan added:
“It’s just brilliant to be back on the Tardis with Matt and Arthur for our craziest adventures yet.”
Losing the Ponds will be key moment in the show – Rory and Amy have been with key elements since Matt Smith appeared as the Eleventh Doctor back in 2010. A “rollercoaster voyage” has been promised by the BBC in the lead up to Amy and Rory moving on – but their story will be just a small part of the 14 episode series, which will feature new foes and old villains…
Finally there is also some casting news: in addition to Mark Williams, David Bradley (Argus Filch in the Harry Potter movies) and Rupert Graves (Sherlock) have also been cast in guest roles.
