In perfect odd couple logic one was off the cuff, looser and more playfully mercurial. The other, hard-working, a perfectionist and a control freak.
They were two different actors from two different backgrounds that forged a lasting screen partnership that’s still wonderfully snide and entertaining to this day.
Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee both stole the show in The Three Doctors and in Pertwee and Troughton the production team recall the early testy days of rehearsals that lead to a fantastic double act and a lasting friendship.
The clip comes from the Revisitations 3 boxset which also includes The Tomb of the Cybermen and Robots of Death – plus loads of new extra features – is available now to pre-order for an excellent £25.97 from Amazon and is released on 13th February.

Actually, Troughton stole the show in this episode. It was so cool to see him back again as the Doctor, in color yet. He was wonderful in this episode. Pertwee is good, but he’s no Troughton.
Bill Hartnell gets the best line in the show and the most memorable moment ever in Doctor Who…
‘Ah so you’re my replacements – a dandy and a clown’
The Three Doctors one of the best Who serials ever made and one which is truly magical….
The Three Doctors is without a doubt the best of the anniversary get togethers! Troughton’s return was a fantastic surprise for those of us that remembered him from his own time on the show! Both he and Pertwee were great and as Patrick didn’t look much different from when he was The Doctor it made this one so much more believable!
