The 4th Doctor’s Christmas Lights

Following the broadcast of archive footage of Tom Baker visiting a school in Northern Ireland in 1979 at the height of his Doctor Who popularity, the BBC’s official site has included a great Adventure Calendar gift this week!

The clip below – which loses sound part way through – sees Tom in the guise of the Fourth Doctor – switching on the Christmas tree lights at Derry before a huge crowd of fans. He is then interviewed as Tom Baker by a local TV journalist and enthuses over the reaction he has received from the local populace.

It’s great stuff, and you can see it below!

Regular readers may recall that similar footage was featured on the recent BBC show Those Were The Days which featured Tom visiting a school. Well it seems that more footage of the event exists, including the then-star of Doctor Who wandering around Belfast and appearing on a radio interview.

It’s fascinating stuff, we think you’ll agree!
