Beyond Our Pond
Hopefully by now you’ll have digested the news that Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill are leaving Doctor Who at some point during its seventh series. Yes, it’ll be the end of an era and yes it’s bound to bring quite a few people to tears when it happens on-screen but that’s the beauty of Doctor Who, the story always continues.
Talking about her future after Doctor Who, Gillan has motioned that she would like to do theatre work and get her teeth into some character roles. This seems to be a path that many Doctor Who actors follow after they appear in a starring or recurring role in the show, flexing their acting muscles in different parts to show exactly what else they can offer and why not? They’re a talented bunch and it’s always enjoyable to see what else they can lend their talent to.
But the actress has ideas of which kind of stage work she would like to do and if you’re a fan of musicals then don’t hold your breath and expect to see her in one anytime soon:
“Maybe something on Broadway. I’d love to do that. Not a musical, maybe like a play on Broadway.”
Gillan will be playing the role of model Jean Shrimpton in the BBC Four drama We’ll Take Manhattan in January 2012 so tune in for that if you want to see exactly what else the actress can offer in terms of character pieces. We’re betting it’s going to be a belter!
