Will Amy Return?

Karen Gillan has spoken about her future as Amy Pond and has commented that she will not make any “Rose Tyler” style returns once she leaves the show.

In an interview for the Doctor Who Brilliant Book 2012, the actress spoke of how she did not want to keep coming back and forth in the Doctor’s life but would rather draw a line under the saga of Amy Pond once and for all.

“Death would be an option. I don’t want Amy to pop up again every so often, because for me it would take away from the big, emotional goodbye.

“Once she’s gone, she’s gone. I want people to remember the Amy Pond era as a good one.”

Amy Pond and Rory Williams recently left the Doctor’s life (or more accurately, were made to leave) at the end of The God Complex. That hasn’t stopped them from appearing in two further episodes albeit not as regular TARDIS dwellers.

So what does the future hold for the two characters? Have we seen the last of them or will they be popping up for a few appearances before disappearing forever. There have been rumours as to whether we will see Karen or Arthur Darvill in any of the 2012/2013 series but it does seem very unlikely that they’ve already filmed their last ever episodes.

After all, it wouldn’t seem right if the Williams’ weren’t at the Fields of Trenzalore at the fall of the Eleventh…

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!

With the lack of any announcement – or even casting rumors – for a new companion, plus the fact their last appearance wasn’t really a finale per se, as far as we know it could be status quo for next season with Amy and Rory present and proper. All we know is both Gillan and Darvill have said they’re back for Series 7, so I’m holding them to it! ;)

I’m bored with the character and hope her and Rory are only in half the next series.

Well, that’s a little too late for that …

I’ll be sad when the time comes. Amy Pond and her family are an integral part of the 11th Doctor’s era. Plus Karen and Arthur are such fun people to have around the show.

She could be saying that just to throw us off the scent. Maybe she is coming back but just wants us to stop asking questions..

I would like to see them as an “earth contact” for one. Have them getting on with their lives, but pop up for episodes where it makes sense (like the brig and a few others).

Maybe it’s just me, but i think they need a “flashy” announcement sometime about the future of DW anyway. There are a few of us out here getting a bit nervous about the series’ future as a whole.

Karen has matured as the last series progressed, she grew into a good backup and might be a target to go into Torchwood, why she let them put her into those skimpy skirts I dont know but now she can play the hell out of the part as a normal young woman with brains. If they let her, as for the current Doctor Who some current should be sent through him he has been the most repetitive and boring character ever to play the part.

I think the most important thing to remember is that it’s not the Amy Pond show, it’s Doctor Who and if a companion stays too long, it could be damaging to who comes after. Now Jamie and Sarah were there for 3 solid years but really, even at her best, Amy is no Sarah Jane (or even Jamie for that matter) but I think it’d be great if they pop in here and then a couple times before Matt regenerates. Gillan says once she’s gone, she’s gone and no coming back but she’s already coming and going so she may not be the best person to speak to all this. Plus, no, there’s been no talk of a new companion but then again, it’s going to be ages before they film the next season, which won’t even be on screen for a year! so anything can happen.

I actually think smith can carry off several episodes on his own without a companion but then there’s River and Craig as well so he’s got a good roster of friends he can visit.
