Even though Doctor Who has been the winner of some very prestigious awards since its return in 2005, it does seem like quite a while since it was given the pat on the back that it deserves – especially since the Eleventh Doctor made his debut.
This probably has nothing to do with the change in staff at Doctor Who towers and in a way it’s a good thing as it means that the Doctor Who team won’t rest on their laurels (too many awards spoil the broth) however, it doesn’t hurt once in a while to give the show a smile and a handshake and say “well done and thank you” for all the hard work that leads to hours of entertainment for all us Doctor Who fans.
With that in mind, perhaps you might want to keep your fingers crossed and your attention focused on the Broadcast Awards 2012, held by Broadcast Magazine, a publication based on the UK television industry. The shortlist nominations have been announced with Doctor Who Series 6 appearing under the Best International Programme Sales category (alongside Torchwood: Miracle Day) and over in the Best Drama Series appears The Sarah Jane Adventures.
It’s not the biggest category that Doctor Who has ever appeared in but remember that the more attention the show receives, the more it continues to be a powerful BBC weapon in the ratings war with other channels. Plus, it’ll be interesting to see who made more for the BBC over the past year, Doctor Who or its younger sibling Torchwood!
