Filming for Doctor Who The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe was underway recently at the East Kirkby Aviation Heritage Centre where Alexander Armstrong filmed some of his scenes for the 2011 Christmas special.
Armstrong, who also played Mr Smith in The Sarah Jane Adventures for five years, turned up with the rest of the Doctor Who filming crew to get his scenes secured onto camera.
What role he will have within the episode is unknown at this point, but one of the publicity photographs (provided by the BBC) sees him as Second World War pilot so could he possibly be the husband of the aforementioned widow that is name checked within the title of the story?
We will just have to wait and see!
The scenes that were filmed had to be kept secret so as to not attract the attention of onlookers or fans in case filming was disturbed. General Manager of the centre Andrew Panton commented on the “last minute” nature of the arrangement:
“They were quite reluctant to tell us in advance because if the public knew that Doctor Who was filming here there’d be a huge influx of people coming onto the site.”
The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe will surely be another classic Christmassy outing for the Eleventh Doctor and fun for all at 7pm on Christmas Day!
