River’s Deleted Scene
Have you not seen all of Doctor Who if you haven’t seen the deleted scenes as well? If you think that way then you’re likely to be disappointed as there’s a couple from the 2011 series that never made it past the cutting room floor.
Eagle eyed viewers may have noticed that some snippets of scenes from the first full trailer of the first half of this year’s Doctor Who never made it into the show and were left out. Notable scenes include a naked River Song winking at an unknown receiver and some Nazis looking a bit cross.
Steven Moffat has gone on record by saying that the nude River Song scene was a bit too much for Doctor Who and indeed prime time viewing and left it out completely. Why the Nazi scene was cut is a bit more of a mystery but it was probably due to episode length rather than anything else.
For those of you that need to know, the River naked scene was based at the Stormcage in which she was/is imprisoned. Whilst talking to the new Governor of the facility regarding her past number of breakout attempts, she comments:
“Oh, it was never fifteen—unless you’re counting holidays and hair appointments…”
Apparently, the rest of the scene plays out like this:
“Said River as she opened a cupboard on the cell wall and pulled out an impossibly long clothes rail of dresses commenting, “Don’t mind my wardrobe. Teensy bit bigger on the inside!”
So there you go, you can now rest easy that you know what happened in the scene that never was. Unfortunately it looks like it may never get to the DVD and Blu-ray release as there’s no deleted scenes list. But you can keep hoping…
