What’s In Store for Amy?

Website i09.com had the good fortune to be able to sit down with the lovely Karen Gillan at the recent San Diego Comic-Con and ask the actress a few questions about Amy Pond’s future in Doctor Who.

Pond recently learnt that River Song is actually little Melody Pond from the future but was still left to fret as the baby was kidnapped and taken away through time and space with only the Doctor to track her down.

Having been through so much with the Time Lord from such a young age, is trust something that comes easy to the character of Amy or is it something that’s in short supply? Karen remarked:

“Because of what happened to her as a child — that never quite leaves her, I think. So that’s really interesting. But we might see that trust begin to grow, and then something’s going to happen to that trust in the next part of the series. Something really major.”

Very ominous indeed, what cataclysmic event awaits the TARDIS travellers? Certainly there’s going to be a lot of unanswered questions that need tending to, there’s also the interesting angle of River and Amy and what their relationship will be like now that they both know they’re mother and daughter, with Amy possibly being the Doctor’s mother-in-law:

“That’s a really weird thought and it really disturbs me. [Laughs] It’s definitely going to be explored. All of the relationships change in the next half of the series. What’s really fun is the relationship between Amy and River. That’s really explored.”

If you want to read the full interview, note that it also features a little bit from Toby Whithouse on his new episode.

Don’t miss Doctor Who on Saturday evening at 7.10pm on BBC One and BBC HD!
