Back in April, the BBC decided to run a competition (“From Script To Screen”) for primary school children to write a script for a Doctor Who mini-episode that would end up on the small screen.
The title and some details of the mini episode have now been revealed, but they’re keeping a lot under their hats (I’m sure those kids are presently being harassed for details from their schoolmates/journalists). The winning pupils from Oakley CE Junior School in Basingstoke got to travel up to the studios in Cardiff to see their episode being produced and meet Matt Smith. Naturally they were very happy about this, pretty much anybody would be.
The episode is called Death Is The Only Answer. For the episode, the writers had to choose one of four monsters (an Ood, Judoon, Cyberman or Weeping Angel) and a new human character to go up against Matt Smith’s Doctor. Details about the 3-minute episode are few and far between so we don’t even know what monster they chose yet (my money’s on the Weeping Angel). What we do know is the title, when it airs and that it involves a famous historical figure and a fez.
You can see how the story went from script to screen on this Saturday’s Doctor Who Confidential airing after Let’s Kill Hitler and Death Is The Only Answer will air on the 1st of October, which should also be the airdate for The Wedding Of River Song. Here’s hoping they’ll be running similar competitions in the future – maybe ones that certain Kasterborous writers can enter this time…
