We reported yesterday on former Doctor Who Christopher Eccleston’s subtle explanation on why he left the role that made him a hero to millions of children – but it seems there was more to the acting masterclass Q&A than recalling the events of 2005…
As reported in Frost Magazine, Christopher Eccleston is among the celebrities to have been hacked by News International reporters!
Christopher Eccleston said today (Wednesday) that he found out he was hacked yesterday and plans to sue Rupert Murdoch. Eccleston added he was looking forward to sticking the boot into Murdoch.
This obviously points at some interesting Doctor Who personnel-related facts and show spoilers that have appeared in newspapers over the past few years. Let’s get one thing out of the way first, however: Christopher Eccleston isn’t exactly typical tabloid fodder. He generally keeps himself to himself, preferring to avoid interviews and express himself in his work. He doesn’t do awards ceremonies and enjoys a private life away from TV and stage.
Which can only mean that he was phone hacked when he was the star of Doctor Who, so it isn’t a massive leap of imagination to wonder if his co-star Billie Piper, his successor David Tennant and even Freema Agyeman might also have been victims of this scandal.
Obviously, we know nothing more than what Eccleston said on Wednesday, but given the scale of the problem (which if you haven’t been paying attention to the issue covers something like 5000 mobile phone numbers) there is every chance that people like John Simm and Catherine Tate could also have been hacked.
