Harvest of Time

Alastair Reynolds – bestselling author of the Revelation Space series – is writing the first all new past Doctor novel- Harvest of Time.

The novel set for release in 2013 features Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor in an adventure set on both twentieth century Earth and far into the future, where the Doctor will once again battle against his arch-nemesis; the Master.

The announcement come as part of a concerted plan by BBC Books following the re-issue of the frankly gorgeous Target novels and the upcoming Gareth Roberts novelisation of Shada in 2012.

BBC Books editorial director Albert DePetrillo commented:

“The next step is all-original adventures with past Doctors, and we knew we needed to publish those in a special way. I’m absolutely delighted that Alastair can be part of that plan. He is simply one of the best science fiction writers around, and we’re thrilled to have him contributing to the Doctor Who list.”

Reynolds – whose Chasm City won the British Science Fiction Award for Best Novel – has long been a Doctor Who fan and is relishing the chance to play in his universe:

Doctor Who has been a big part of my life for forty years. To put things into perspective, when I was little I did not want to go round to another boy’s house because he had Dalek wallpaper, a concept I found unspeakably terrifying.

I am delighted and honored to have the chance to write a novel featuring not only one of my favorite Doctors, but the single greatest villain ever imagined: The Master.”

BBC Books will publish the hardback edition of Harvest of Time for £16.99 in 2013.

About

Everyone has a favourite Doctor and mine - just for his honesty, his fairness and his ability to not notice the Master's awful, awful disguises/anagrams (Sir Gilles Estram!?!) - has to be the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison. The stories didn’t serve him as well as his acting served those stories.
