Doctor Who Returns to BBC America!

Thanks to the Comic Con panel featuring Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Toby Whithouse and outgoing execs Beth Willis and Piers Wenger, we now know that Doctor Who Series 6 is set to continue on BBC America on August 27th!

Given the pattern of BBC One and BBC America attempting to sync broadcast of the series to reduce spoilers and pirating, it’s a fair guess that this is also the date the series will return in the UK, with the amazingly-titled Let’s Kill Hitler!

Matt and Karen’s presence at the San Diego Comic Con panel is to appear on a BBC America panel, so we can be pretty much certain that the date is reliable.

Note, of course, that the series’ return to BBC One is yet to be confirmed.

So, it’s time to set our alarm clocks, awaken the drones here at K Towers and generally get really excited.

Doctor Who is back in just over one month’s time!

So, the UK will be getting it in September then. Probably a week after it airs on BBC America. I’m kidding – but given the way the homegrown fanbase has been screwed over with regards to Torchwood I wouldn’t be surprised.

@Ian as the BBC explained, the situation with Torchwood is that Starz is the primary funder so they get first dibs on worldwide broadcast. That said, the BBC could air it the next day like they do in Canada and Australia. Doctor Who is completely the BBC’s baby, so if BBC America has announced Aug. 27, then that’s the date BBC One has decided on. Only One follows a 40-year-out-of-date policy of only confirming airdates a couple weeks in advance. I feel sorry for that Edinburgh festival though that was (is) scheduled to show LKH on the 28th, in what was being promoted as a premiere.

As I said, I was kidding. However I am frustrated by the incompetence of the BBC – Season 7 / Moffatgate for example. Why is it that BBC America is doing all the running on this? Why is it that the big announcements are coming from overseas?

Well, at least I get to steal it off the internet and watch it all early! Hurrah!
