You heard right, boys and girls – we’re still a whole 19 days away from The Impossible Astronaut, but the DVD and Blu-ray versions of the next seven episodes of Doctor Who are already available for pre-order!
This should settle the already-not-so-strong debate as to whether we call 2011 Who’s two major chunks Series 6 and Series 7, or just Series 6, split into two halves. And the answer is… (as most of us have guessed) the latter! All two discs of Doctor Who Series 6 – Part 1, as the boxes are labeled (although we don’t believe these are the final approved covers), will be released on July 11th, shortly after the Torchwood: Miracle Day premiere.
Pre-order prices on Amazon are a little quirky at the moment. As would be expected, the RRP of the Blu-ray disc (£29.99) is higher than that of the DVD version (£24.99), but Amazon’s discounted prices actually put the Blu-ray box at £17.99, slightly less than its DVD counterpart, which you can purchase right now for £18.70. If you’re the sort of person who can play Blu-ray but would still prefer to buy DVDs because they don’t cost as much, it’s your lucky day – treat yourself to some well-deserved high definition!
If you, like most Kasterborous readers, are in the UK, and you just know you’re going to love this season with all your heart, you can use this link to pre-order your choice of Blu-ray or DVD on Amazon! Sadly, if you live in the US, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan (all the other nations Amazon caters to), or any other foreign part of the universe, you’ll have to wait.
Speaking of waiting, remember how we said there’s still 19 days till the new season a few paragraphs ago? Doctor Who returns April 23rd to BBC One and BBC HD… Can we last that long?
