Revelation of the Toy Range

Doctor Who - Revelation of the Dalek figure setHow good is Revelation of the Daleks? During Colin Baker’s original tenure as the Sixth Doctor, he did not have that many amazing stories to go by but this was one of the few that struck a chord with people everywhere.

Which is why it’s very nice that the lovely people at Forbidden Planet have decided to sell some exquisite models of the Doctor, Davros and the Daleks from that particular story.

Available for pre order now is a wonderful figurine set to make your collection glow. It features not only the Sixth Doctor is his blue over garment  (perfect for mourning on Necros) but also a handily challenged Davros and a Renegade and Imperial Dalek.

This is surely another brilliant addition that no collector would want to be without and would sit comfortably amongst other Dalek sets.

Available for delivery from 5th April 2011, this set is available for purchase at only £34.99. Now, however you look at it, that’s a really good deal.

There are many reasons to pick this particular collection up-nostalgia, respect or even admiration but the main reason has got to be that it looks just too good to say no to!

You can visit now to be one of the first to pre order your set, don’t delay!

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!

Hmmm well I have had to pass on this one due to space and well, already have the Resurrection and Revelation sets so….plus there’s nothing about this particular set the grabs me. Of course others would disagree and if so, its well worth the money.

On the hand, I have just recieved The Sontaron Experiment and its totally amazing.

I’m totally behind on my classics range, the last set I bought was the revenge cybermen one. I totted up in my head how much it would cost to get completely up to date – roughly 200 smackeroonies. Damn this collecting malarkey! I really want the the Sontaran Experiment set though, the Styre figure looks spot on..

  3. Yeah I think Mez was trying to point out that although this is a bit of a “seen it all before” set, for collectors/completists its one that they won’t want to be without…

I never much liked Revelation. Rewatched it again a couple months ago and I still just don’t like it at all. Can’t even explain why. I just find something really off putting and unappealing about the whole story.

If you’re a keen collector, are minted and have space for all these sets, then good luck to you.

But look at this set again: it’s basically just duplicate C Baker figure – only with a blue cape that you could’ve made yourself from some old material or paper, 2 duplicate Daleks (perhaps with extremely minor details changed) and a duplicate Davros – only with a green stump where his claw should be – again, something you could arrange yourself using the Davros you’ve already got.

They’re not stupid, Character Options, are they? They know how to fleece fans with duplicate casts, sometimes only changing the head or doing a small paint job. They know that there are enough fans daft/rich/obsessive enough to buy it, even though it’s basically just the Resurrection set which was released last month but with a different Dr.

So they keep their costs down a bit by duplicating, but they rake it in from sales. I admire their business acumen, but “I for one” (I’ve always wanted to say that last bit!)will not by bothering with this set.

I’m just glad I’m not an obsessive collector, or I’d have no space or money left at all now.

It’s great that the range exists, and the quality of most of the figures is excellent, however, and I love the ones I’ve got. I just feel they could push it further at times – why no Davros hidden inside the Emperor casing for the Remembrance set? Or Sarah and Harry for the Sontaran Experiment?

There’s only so many repeat Daleks or Cybermen that I can take.
