Online Responsibility of Whovians

Sometimes, there’s always a few who try and spoil a fun thing for the rest. That much has become evident over on the Big Finish website as they’ve had a bit of trouble from some forum members.

Some bigotry, prejudice and even bullying have been appearing in some of the forums run by the audio production company, to such an extent that they have shut that section of the website down indefinitely whilst they decide its future.

This can sometimes be the way that forums go, certainly in the Doctor Who world. Whilst everyone’s opinion is indeed valid and open for discussion, there is always a line that you must remember to draw when getting into a debate with someone.

Kasterborous’ forum has (luckily) never had to endure this problem as it’s filled with good natured and sensible people but as you can see at Big Finish, it only takes one person to bring a whole world crashing down!

Whilst this must be terribly inconvenient for the production team at Big Finish, they still want to hear your opinion on their products and they still want your questions for their weekly podcast, Vortex. You can direct questions to the team via emailing either enquiries@bigfinish.com or podcast@bigfinish.com. Big Finish’s Facebook page will also remain open for you to leave posts on.

Hopefully, things will be back to normal sooner rather than later and everyone will be able to put this behind them. Just remember, good people, we’re all here for the same reason – to celebrate a fantastic effort made on a fantastic show.

Let’s focus on that rather than bickering amongst ourselves.

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!

To be fair, the Big Finish Forums are/were also, for the most part, filled with “good-natured and sensible people”. Even those involved in the disagreement, on both sides, were basically good-natured and sensible. Even good friends can get into a heated argument. Also, it was far more than one person who “brought the whole world crashing down”. Quite a few people were involved in the discussion that finally broke the camel’s back. What happened at Big Finish could happen as a result of discussing a controversial topic on any forum – even Kasterborous.

    • Thanks for your insight into the event – personally I hope they reopen the forum as there are far worse places on the web
