New Series Episode Titles!

Fresh from Twitter, BBC entertainment bod Lizo Mzimba (found at @lizo_mzimba) have this evening revealed the titles of the first two episodes of the new series!

Series 6 is high likely to kick off on BBC One on Saturday, April 23rd (known as Easter Saturday; this is yet to be confirmed, however) with The Impossible Astronaut opening the run. This is episode one of a two-part adventure that may or may not be concluded the following day with Day of the Moon. These episodes were shot largely on location in the USA, notably in Utah, last December.

Written by Steven Moffat and starring Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill as the Doctor, Amy and Rory, these episodes guest star Alex Kingston as River Song – so watch out for clues and potential revelations from her!

Here’s Lizo’s original Tweet:

Just got invite to screening of first two new Dr Who eps. “The Impossible Astronaut” and “Day of the Moon”. Gosh, the year’s gone quickly.

Meanwhile, Doctor Who Magazine have since revealed that:

DWM has the titles for the next five episodes too – but we’re going to sit on them for now. They’re for our next issue’s news page…!

I think ‘shot largely on location in the USA’ might be pushing it a tad. There was a good few days filming in Nevada for sure – but the scenes set in New York and Washington were all filmed in sunny Cardiff.

I hope that the transmission dates mentioned here do turn out to be correct. Easter Saturday does seem likely – it’s a big weekend for TV, and a great slot for Doctor Who series openers. Easter Sunday for Episode 2 would be fantastic. I was worried about the Easter Saturday as the launch date for the series, because the following Saturday is the Royal Wedding – and you wouldn’t want to wait for a fortnight to watch the second episode of a two-parter. This would be a splendid solution to that problem – and I reckon you could pull in a very sizeable audience over those two days. Fingers crossed.

  2. Good call on the wedding – I’m not really “tuned in” to all that…

bloody royal wedding tedium. Doctor Who is much better.

The thing about the royal wedding is that regardless of what time coverage finishes, you’re likely to see a dip in audience figures for the evening, as there are lots of parties and events planned, so people may not be at home to watch Doctor Who. So if the show is off air for that Saturday, it might not be such a bad thing really.
