Lynda Baron Back in Who
The big news making the rounds from the past couple of days is that James Corden is back on the set of Doctor Who filming scenes alongside Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill. The BBC have confirmed that he’ll be reprising his role as Craig Owens but that could all be a massive deception…
What’s much, much more interesting is that during filming, another well known actress was spotted on set, none other than television legend Lynda Baron!
Lynda is famous for her as Nurse Gladys in Open All Hours and as also had roles in Coronation Street and Eastenders. Doctor Who fans will recognise her from the 1983 Fifth Doctor story Enlightenment, in which she played Captain Wrack. She also lent her vocal talents as a singer in the 1966 story The Gunfighters.
But what role will Lynda be undertaking for the newest series, if any at all? Is this just a fleeting visit to the set to see how things have changed for the Doctor Who production team over the years? Is she Matt Smiths’s new girlfriend? Steven Moffat’s new Script Editor? Is The Silence really something to do with the Black Guardian bringing Captain Wrack back into the Doctor’s life?
Or is it possible that she’s playing Craig or Sophie’s mum?
