Torchwood Updates It’s Status

It seems that in the New World we’ll still be using social networking sites to spread joy and schadenfreude to all. Torchwood: The New World’s Facebook page has spread a little post-Christmas joy by updating the synopsis for the forthcoming Starz/BBC Worldwide series.

The synopsis fills us in on what Jack (John Barrowman) and Gwen (Eve Myles) have been since the aftermath of Children of Earth; giving us Jack’s motivation for returning since the Doctor set him up with Alonso Frame (Russell Tovey) in The End of Time:

The new ten-part series of the Doctor Who spinoff will also see the return of regular Torchwood characters Captain Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper.Gwen will be shown living peacefully in Wales with husband Rhys (Kai Owen) and new baby Anwen when she encounters a “new, epic danger” that will “push [her] to the limit”.

Having left Earth at the conclusion of previous miniseries Children of Earth, Harkness will be drawn back to the Torchwood institute by “his unstated love for Gwen”.

New series writer Jane Espenson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Warehouse 13) has also been busy tweeting her excitement about the first table read for episode one:

“Just got the info about the first Torchwoodread-thru! Get to meet the cast, hear RTD’s ep 1 out loud. So excited!”

As the interest builds towards the summer air date, we’ll keep you posted on all the latest news on the new series.

Torchwood: The New World airs this summer on BBC 1 in the UK and the Starz Network in the USA.

About the Author

Everyone has a favourite Doctor and mine - just for his honesty, his fairness and his ability to not notice the Master's awful, awful disguises/anagrams (Sir Gilles Estram!?!) - has to be the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison. The stories didn’t serve him as well as his acting served those stories.
