The full shortlist for the 2011 National Television Awards has been announced, with Doctor Who and Matt Smith up against some tough competition.
Following the long-list in September, the early nominations have been whittled down to just four in each category.
Doctor Who is nominated in the Drama category against Waterloo Road, Shameless and Sherlock, while Matt Smith is nominated in the Drama Performance category and is up against Ashes to Ashes‘ Philip Glenister, veteran David Jason (A Touch of Frost) and Sherlock‘s Benedict Cumberbatch.
There are some names here that might consider the David Tennant-less 2011 National Television Awards to be a case of “unfinished business” so don’t expect a default Doctor Who victory… however with Sherlock and Doctor Who battling it out in two categories, Steven Moffat has two chances for glory, as does Beth Willis who previously worked on Ashes to Ashes.
