The Rebel Flesh Cast

Thanks to Spotlight, Doctor Who fans now know that Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes star Marshall Lancaster will be appearing in the show in 2011, alongside Sarah Smart.

Attentive readers will be unsurprised to find that Lancaster (and Smart) has been cast in the two part adventure written by Matthew Graham (who along with Ashley Pharoah created Life on Mars and its sequel).

Marshall Lancaster played Chris Skelton (right) in the time travelling/cop/purgatory shows, initially alongside Master actor John Simm. Meanwhile Sarah Smart has recently appeared in Wallander with Kenneth Brannagh and previously appeared with Peter Davison in At Home with the Braithwaites.

Graham’s episodes – currently known as The Rebel Flesh and Gangers – will see Lancaster playing “Buzzer” while Smart plays a lady called Jennifer Lucas. The episodes are apparently shooting in Cardiff currently, directed by Julian Simpson.

Fans with long memories will recall Fear Her, the 11th episode of Series 2 of Doctor Who in 2006 which saw the Doctor and Rose encounter a girl with the power to bring drawings to life; the time travellers were threatened by a scribble monster while the girl was in fear of a crayon represenation of an abusive father. Not the most comfortable viewing for anyone.
