Sylv is Radagast the Brown!

Peter Jackson’s latest film, The Hobbit is set to start filming soon and casting is now being announced with the Seventh Doctor himself, Sylvester McCoy, confirmed as Radagast the Brown. Whilst Sylvester let this information slip a little while back, this is now the official announcement.

Jackson directed the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy, which ran from 2001-2003 and now has the job of bringing this prequel to life. For those who aren’t familiar with the plot, it goes a little something like this:

“The Hobbit follows the quest of home-loving hobbit Bilbo Baggins to win a share of the treasure guarded by the dragon, Smaug. Bilbo’s journey takes him from light-hearted, rural surroundings into darker, deeper territory.”

The description of McCoy’s character that he’ll be playing is:

“[Radagast]is one of the Istari or Wizards who were sent by the angelic Valar to aid the Elves and Men of Middle-earth in their struggle against the Dark Lord Sauron.”

What’s interesting to note is that Radagast appears in Lord of the Rings but is only mentioned in The Hobbit, so quite how big Sylvester’s role will be is anyone’s guess.

However, well done to the fella for landing the part in the first place!

What happens when an eight year old kid watches the 1993 repeat run of Planet of the Daleks? He pretty much ends up here writing about the show that grabbed hold of him and never let go!
