Next week’s Radio Times features yet another Doctor Who cover, with Matt Smith, Michael Gambon and Katherine Jenkins picture flying some sort of sleigh.
It’s rather a striking image too (seen here courtesy of the Radio Times), giving us a flavour of the planet the time travellers will visit in the Christmas special but just what is pulling them along?
The stars of A Christmas Carol are interviewed in the magazine, in which we find out just what Matt Smith thinks about Christmas Doctor Who episodes.
“It was a great privilege to do it,†he enthuses, aware of the institution the Christmas Special has become since it was launched with David Tennant in 2005. “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do since I started the show. I love Christmas, plus I’ve always wanted to film something in July that has got snow in, loads of snow… it’s very Christmassy.â€
Meanwhile we’ve already heard from Katherine Jenkins this week who was pretty nervous about not messing up her first acting role.
“It was far worse than any nerves I’ve ever had for any performance,†recalls the mezzo unequivocally, a note of terror still audible in her voice. “I spent a lot of time thinking about it,†she adds. “It’s such an iconic show, and it’s one that we watch as a family. I just thought, ‘I’d love to give it a try.’
Quite what Dumbledore Michael Gambon thinks about it we don’t know – you’ll have to buy a copy of the listings magazine on sale from Thursday 2nd December with listings covering 11-17th December 2010 to find out!

It’s a dolphin! So long and thanks for all the fish…
Second year running that Doctor Who has missed out on the Christmas edition front page of RT. OK, there was a Dalek (or a pair of dancers) on the front page last year, but it’s not the same is it? Wallace and Gromit took the honour in 2008. Any guesses for who will be on this year’s festive edition? Probably Santa again. Sigh. Let’s start lobbying for the Doctor on the front page of RT for Christmas 2011 now!
It’s Wallace & Gromit on the front page of the Xmas RT. Again. I’d understand if they had a new story out to be broadcast on Christmas Day – but no. What a stupid decision. http://www.radiotimes.com/content/features/galleries/christmas-covers/25/
