For those of you that were lucky enough to witness the event on Wednesday: we’re all very jealous. To all those who don’t know what I’m talking about: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill turned on Cardiff city’s Christmas lights this Wednesday just gone.
The current TARDIS trio illuminated Cardiff in Christmas cheer at approximately 7:45pm. The last TARDIS team to do this was former Doctor David Tennant and Billie Piper in 2005. Matt commented:
“It’s a real honour to be asked to switch on Cardiff’s Christmas lights because the city has become like a second home to not only me, but the rest of the Doctor Who production team…we love filming here in Wales and we even managed to get into the festive spirit extra early this year when filming the Doctor Who Christmas special in August
“Cardiff is a great city and I’d like to thank all of its residents for being so welcoming and accommodating.”
Smith is currently filming his second series of Doctor Who in Cardiff. If you missed the event, don’t worry, there’s bound to be more appearances from Matt and Karen over the next month in the run up to the 2010 Doctor Who Christmas special!
