Karen’s in Love

Amy Pond actress Karen Gillan is set for a big screen near you – with X Files‘ Gillian Anderson as her mother! No, it’s not a fanboy fantasy, this is a real, actual movie which marks comedian and writer David Baddiel’s directorial debut, Romeo and Brittney.

Baddiel has already had movie scripting success recently with The Infidel which starred Iranian bord comic Omid Djalili as a Muslim who discovers he was born of Jewish parents. The conceit for Baddiel’s latest movie (which he somehow feels qualified to direct) is that a New Jersey high-school girl winds up back in time in 13th century Verona and a the subject of the events depicted in Shakespeare’s Romeo And Juliet.

The film’s producer, Arvind Ethan David, describes Baddiel’s movie as:

Shakespeare In Love meets Clueless“.

“We both love literate teen comedies and we wanted to do our own version,” he said. “After all, 10 Things I Hate About You was based on The Taming Of The Shrew just as Clueless was based on Jane Austen’s Emma and Easy A is inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter.

“And what is Twilight if it’s not Romeo And Juliet with vampires and werewolves?”

Umm… cynical, derivative cr*p?

Still, if it means seeing Karen Gillan in the full big screen 16:9 resolution, I’ll be queing up to see it…
