‘Crash’ Star Joins ‘Torchwood’ Cast
We have a Torchwood: The New World announcement! All the behind the scenes hand ringing, coffee cup throwing and communications blackouts from agents to stars and producers have finally resulted in the first bit of casting news for the upcoming fourth series.
According to Deadline, joining (Group) Captain Jack (John Barrowman) and Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) stateside will be Arlene Tur, cast in the recurring role of Surgeon Vera Juarez – whose place in the Torchwood universe has yet to be revealed (other than cutting up people/things.)
Tur is something of a Starz network (co-producers of the new series along with BBC Worldwide) veteran after working for them playing police officer Bebe Arcel in the Crash TV series (thats the Paul Haggis movie not an adaptation of J G Ballard’s Auto (mobile) Erotic novel of the same name.)
Meanwhile, the role of a Rex Matheson, the Ass Kicking CIA Agent, is ongoing after two previously considered actors Enver Gjokaj (Dollhouse) and Chad Micheal Murray (One Tree Hill) fell out of contention. It is also thought that James Wolk (Lone Star) has passed on the chance to play Rex.
Another star in line to be one of many of Jacks new conquests is Amber Stevens (Greek) who is said to be the front runner for the role of CIA Watch Analyst Esther Katusi described as:
“A grunt — who, against all odds, has both an unshakable faith in human nature and a monster crush on Rex Matheson.”
Torchwood: The New World is set to air simultaneously on Starz in the US and on BBC 1 in the UK next Summer.
